Where Salem-area crusher units lose money

The crusher belt across Salem, Namakkal and Dharmapuri supplies blue metal, jalli and M-sand to construction sites across western Tamil Nadu and beyond. Most units still run on a weighbridge printout, a handwritten dispatch register and a separate billing program — three records that rarely agree at month end.

The leaks are familiar to every owner: a slip rewritten after the lorry has left, a load billed at the wrong size or rate, night dispatches that never reach the register, credit customers whose dues are tracked in a notebook, and transit passes that run out before anyone notices the tonnage they covered. None of these show up until the stock or the bank balance does not match.

How a load moves through the system

1. 1The lorry arrives — the operator picks the vehicle number, customer and product size; the tare weight is captured directly from the weighbridge indicator.
2. 2After loading, the gross weight is captured the same way. Net weight is calculated automatically, so nobody types a number.
3. 3The transit pass number is attached to the trip, and the pass balance drops by the dispatched quantity.
4. 4The GST invoice is generated at the customer’s agreed rate, with the e-way bill, and the slip is printed for the driver.
5. 5Cash is posted to the day book; credit goes to the customer’s outstanding with ageing.
6. 6The owner sees the day’s tonnage, sales, collections and stock by size on the dashboard — from anywhere.

Built for how Salem plants actually run

Products are set up the way you sell them: 6 mm, 12 mm, 20 mm and 40 mm jalli, wet mix, dust, M-sand and P-sand — each with its own rate per tonne or per unit, and customer-specific rates for regular contractors.

With M-sand now the default for most construction in Tamil Nadu, many units run a sand line alongside the crusher. Production entries record boulder input against output by size, so you can see yield and spot losses on either line.

Transporters, own lorries and customer vehicles are tracked separately, including trip counts, freight and diesel, so the cost of each dispatch is visible — not just the revenue.
